Winter on the mountain

Volos · Take your time
Give Volos a day of its own. Start with coffee by the water, wander along the promenade and settle into the city’s tsipouradika — small taverns where tsipouro arrives with meze, often seafood, and the pleasure is in sharing the table.
This is the slower side of the city: an unhurried lunch, conversation that runs into the afternoon and a stroll beside the harbour as the light changes.

The Pelion Train
The historic Pelion train travels from Ano Lechonia to Milies, with an intermediate stop at Ano Gatzea. The approximately 15 km journey takes around 90 minutes.
Known as “Moutzouris”, the train offers a different perspective on the mountain, with Milies as its destination. Hellenic Train provides the current timetable and travel information.

Villages of Pelion
Explore a traditional mountain village, with stone architecture and cobbled lanes.
Discover Pelion’s village character through its mansions, shaded squares and stone-built streets.
The railway’s destination is also a historic village, connected to the surrounding landscape by old paths.
Begin around Agia Paraskevi’s great plane tree, or follow the cobbled route towards Damouchari through the forest.
Orchards and mountain paths connect the village landscape with the coast at Chorefto.
